Tools

Links to some software tools which I find useful.

Ubuntu Linux My alternative operating system of choice. I used to be a slackware guy, but Ubuntu is better supported.

Cygwin When I'm stuck using Windows and need some Linux flava, Cygwin usually saves the day.
LaTeX - A typesetting system used to create print-ready documents, works well for mathematics.
Blender - Open source 3D modelling and rendering package. Also see Yafray, an open source raytracer.
GNUplot - Data plotting / visualization program used to create nifty graphs.
Ableton Live - Music production & performance program, does MIDI, VST host, time-stretching, etc.
Emacs - An old-school and very powerful text editor. Apologies to the vi crowd, it's just too weird for me.
Putty - A small, fast, stable SSH / telnet client for Windows. Open source!
Subversion - A version control system. I use it to keep track of projects and my coursework.
Trac - A wiki-style project management system, I use this for my project web pages.
ImageMagick - Command-line image processing tools. For linux or Windows + Cygwin.
Foobar2000 - Arguably not a tool, but it's my audio player of choice. Open source, and kinda hackerish.
